Stacy Keach

Early Life

Walter Stacy Keach Jr. was born on June 2, 1941, in Savannah, Georgia, to Mary Cain, an actress, and Stacy Keach Sr., a theatre director and actor. Born with a cleft lip and palate, he underwent numerous surgeries as a child, which led him to become an advocate for the Cleft Palate Foundation. Keach graduated from Van Nuys High School in 1959 and went on to earn dual BA degrees in English and Dramatic Art from the University of California, Berkeley, followed by a Master of Fine Arts from the Yale School of Drama. He was also a Fulbright Scholar at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, where he met his acting idol, Laurence Olivier.

Career

Stacy Keach's career began in the 1960s, where he made a name for himself in Off-Broadway productions, including the anti-war satire "MacBird!" and George Tabori's "The Niggerlovers" alongside Morgan Freeman. He made his Broadway debut in 1969 as Buffalo Bill in Arthur Kopit's "Indians". Keach became a prominent figure in American theatre, known for his classical roles, including Falstaff in "Henry IV" and Hamlet, which earned him critical acclaim. His versatility extended to television and film, where he starred in various productions, including the iconic role of Mike Hammer.

Personal Life

Stacy Keach has been married four times, with his current wife being Małgorzata Tomassi, a Polish former fashion model. The couple has two adopted children, Shannon and Karolina. In 1984, Keach faced legal troubles when he was arrested for cocaine possession, serving six months in prison, an experience he described as a turning point in his life that led to his conversion to Catholicism. He became a Polish citizen in 2015, reflecting his deep connection to his wife's heritage. Keach's brother, James, is also an actor and television director, continuing the family's legacy in the arts.
