Early Life

Broderick Stephen Harvey was born on January 17, 1957, in Welch, West Virginia, to Jesse Harvey, a coal miner, and Eloise Vera. The youngest of five children, he struggled with a severe stutter in his childhood but overcame it, eventually pursuing a career in entertainment. Inspired by a teacher's encouragement, Harvey dreamed of being on television from a young age. After moving to Cleveland, Ohio, he graduated from Glenville High School in 1974 and briefly attended Kent State University, where he was a member of Omega Psi Phi fraternity but did not graduate.

Career

Harvey's career began in stand-up comedy, with his first performance on October 8, 1985, at the Hilarities Comedy Club in Cleveland. Despite facing homelessness for three years, he persevered and gained recognition as a comedian. His big break came when he became the host of "It's Showtime at the Apollo" in the early 1990s. He starred in the sitcom "The Steve Harvey Show" from 1996 to 2002 and was part of the successful "Kings of Comedy" tour, which grossed $18 million in its first year. Harvey has also hosted several popular television shows, including "Family Feud" and "The Steve Harvey Morning Show."

Personal Life

Harvey has been married three times and has seven children, including twins from his first marriage. He married Marjorie Bridges in 2007, who he credits with transforming his life. The couple has blended their families and enjoys time with their grandchildren. Harvey is also known for his philanthropic efforts, founding the Steve & Marjorie Harvey Foundation, which supports youth outreach and education initiatives. His journey from a stuttering child to a celebrated entertainer exemplifies resilience and determination, making him a prominent figure in American entertainment.
