Steve Morse

Early Life

Steve J. Morse was born on July 28, 1954, in Hamilton, Ohio, but his family soon relocated to Tennessee and then to Ypsilanti, Michigan, where he spent his formative years. Although he initially dabbled with the piano and clarinet, Morse found his true passion in the guitar. He began his musical journey playing in a band called the Plague with his older brother, Dave, before moving to Augusta, Georgia, where he formed a band named Three with his brother and a schoolmate. This group performed at local venues, laying the groundwork for his future musical endeavors.

Career

Morse's career took off when he co-founded the Dixie Dregs, a band that showcased his unique blend of rock, jazz, and classical influences. He later gained fame as the longest-serving guitarist for Deep Purple, having joined the band in 1994. Throughout his career, Morse has released several albums, including "High Tension Wires" and "Major Impacts," and has been a member of the supergroup Flying Colors since 2011. His versatility as a musician is evident in his ability to play various instruments, including guitar, bass, and banjo, and his innovative songwriting techniques.

Recognized as one of the hardest-working guitarists in the industry, Morse has received numerous accolades, including being voted "Best Overall Guitarist" by Guitar Player magazine for five consecutive years.
