Early Life

Swami Vivekananda, born Narendranath Datta on January 12, 1863, in Calcutta, India, hailed from an aristocratic Bengali Kayastha family. He was the second of nine siblings, raised in a household that balanced progressive rationalism and deep spirituality. His father, Vishwanath Datta, was an attorney, while his mother, Bhubaneswari Devi, was a devout housewife. From a young age, Narendranath exhibited a keen interest in spirituality, often meditating before deities and showing fascination for wandering ascetics. His mischievous nature often challenged his parents, who humorously referred to him as a "demon" sent by Shiva.
