Career

Teddy Scholten's career took off in the 1950s when she was invited by The Coca-Cola Company to perform in the United States, making her one of the first Dutch popular music artists to gain international exposure. In 1959, she achieved a significant milestone by winning the Nationaal Songfestival with her song "Een beetje," which allowed her to represent the Netherlands at the Eurovision Song Contest held in Cannes, France. Her performance won her the first prize, marking the Netherlands' second victory in the competition. The song was so popular that it was recorded in multiple languages, including French, German, Italian, and Swedish.

Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, Scholten appeared in various popular television shows in the Netherlands and recorded several albums, many of which featured children's songs alongside her husband, Henk Scholten. She also took on the role of presenter for the Nationaal Songfestival in 1965 and 1966, further solidifying her influence in the Dutch music scene.

Teddy Scholten passed away on April 8, 2010, in The Hague at the age of 83. Her contributions to music and television have left a lasting impact on Dutch culture, and she is remembered as a pioneering artist who brought Dutch pop music to international audiences.
