The Corrs

Formation

The Corrs are an Irish family band formed in 1990, hailing from Dundalk, County Louth, Ireland. The group consists of siblings Andrea, Sharon, Caroline, and Jim Corr. Initially, Jim and Sharon performed as a duo at their aunt's pub, McManus's, before inviting their younger sisters to join them, creating a quartet. Their big break came in 1991 when they auditioned for the film "The Commitments," leading to a management deal with John Hughes.

Breakthrough

The Corrs gained international recognition after performing at the 1994 FIFA World Cup in Boston, invited by the USA ambassador to Ireland. Their debut album, "Forgiven, Not Forgotten," released in 1997, showcased their unique blend of pop rock and traditional Irish music, featuring both vocal and instrumental tracks. The album's success was followed by their second album, "Talk on Corners," which solidified their fame, particularly in the UK and Ireland. They continued to evolve their sound with subsequent albums like "In Blue" and "Borrowed Heaven," which incorporated more mainstream pop elements.

Philanthropy and Legacy

Beyond their musical achievements, The Corrs have been active in philanthropy, participating in various charity concerts and raising funds for causes such as the Pavarotti and Friends concert for Liberian orphans and a charity concert for victims of the Omagh bombing. Their contributions to music and society have earned them numerous accolades, including the NRJ Music Award for International Group/Duo/Troupe of the Year. The Corrs remain a beloved act, known for their harmonious blend of modern rhythms with traditional Irish themes, influencing many artists in the pop rock genre.
