Formation

The Mars Volta, an American progressive rock band, was formed in 2001 by Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodríguez-López, both of whom were previously members of the band At the Drive-In. Following the breakup of At the Drive-In, Bixler-Zavala and Rodríguez-López sought to explore their more experimental musical inclinations, leading to the creation of The Mars Volta. They initially recorded a demo with a lineup that included Eva Gardner on bass, Isaiah "Ikey" Owens on keyboards, and Jeremy Ward on effects, which culminated in the release of their debut EP, "Tremulant," in early 2002.

Key Releases and Lineup Changes

The band's discography is marked by several critically acclaimed albums, including "De‐Loused in the Comatorium," "Frances the Mute," and "The Bedlam in Goliath." Over the years, The Mars Volta underwent numerous lineup changes, with notable members such as Jon Theodore (drums), Juan Alderete (bass), and John Frusciante (guitar) contributing to their sound. The core duo of Bixler-Zavala and Rodríguez-López remained constant throughout, with their partnership being the driving force behind the band's creative output. After a hiatus, they reunited in 2022, bringing back original members and introducing new talent, including Willy Rodriguez Quiñones on drums.
