Troye Sivan

Early Life

Troye Sivan Mellet was born on June 5, 1995, in Johannesburg, South Africa, to Laurelle and Shaun Mellet. At the age of two, he moved to Perth, Australia, with his family due to rising crime in South Africa. Raised in an Orthodox Jewish family, Sivan's heritage includes Lithuanian-Jewish roots, with his grandmother being a Holocaust survivor. He attended Carmel School, a private Modern Orthodox institution, until 2009, when he transitioned to distance education.

Career

Sivan's musical journey began at a young age, performing at the Channel Seven Perth Telethon from 2006 to 2008. He gained further recognition by reaching the finals of StarSearch in 2007. His debut EP, "Dare to Dream," was released in 2007, but it was his signing with EMI Australia in 2013 that marked a significant turning point in his career. His 2014 EP, "TRXYE," debuted at number one on iTunes in over 55 countries and included the hit single "Happy Little Pill," which peaked at number 10 on the ARIA Singles Chart.

Sivan's subsequent releases, including the EP "Wild" and the album "Blue Neighbourhood," solidified his status as a pop sensation. His music, characterized by layered electropop and emotional depth, often explores themes of love and identity, particularly within the LGBTQ community. His artistry has drawn comparisons to influential artists like Lorde and Taylor Swift.

Personal Life

Sivan publicly came out as gay in a YouTube video on August 7, 2013, after having shared his sexuality with his family three years prior. He has been open about his experiences with body image issues and living with Marfan syndrome, a condition that affects his physical appearance. Despite these challenges, Sivan has become a prominent figure in the music industry, using his platform to advocate for LGBTQ rights and representation in media.
