Early Life

Tyra Lynne Banks was born on December 4, 1973, in Inglewood, California. Raised by her mother, Carolyn London, a medical photographer, and her father, Donald Banks, a computer consultant, Tyra experienced a challenging childhood, including her parents' divorce when she was just six years old. Despite being teased for her appearance as a child, she blossomed during her teenage years, growing three inches and losing 30 pounds in a short period. Banks graduated from Immaculate Heart High School in Los Angeles in 1991 and later completed a nine-week course in Harvard University's Owner/President Management non-degree extension program in 2012.

Career

Tyra's career began at the age of 15 when she started modeling, eventually signing with Elite Model Management. She quickly rose to prominence, becoming the first African American woman to grace the covers of GQ and the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. Banks was a Victoria's Secret Angel from 1997 to 2005 and became one of the world's top-earning models by the early 2000s. In addition to modeling, she ventured into television, starring in shows like The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and hosting her own talk show, The Tyra Banks Show, which earned her two Daytime Emmy Awards. She also produced and hosted America's Next Top Model, showcasing her multifaceted talents in the entertainment industry.

Personal Life

In her personal life, Tyra has been open about her struggles with infertility and her journey to motherhood, welcoming her son York Banks Asla via gestational surrogacy in January 2016.
