Biography
Formation and Early Years
UFO, a British space rock and hard rock band, was formed in 1968 in London by lead singer Phil Mogg, guitarist Mick Bolton, bassist Pete Way, and drummer Andy Parker. Initially named Hocus Pocus, they changed their name to UFO and signed with Beacon Records. Their debut album, "UFO 1," released in 1970, showcased their early hard rock sound, featuring a heavy rendition of Eddie Cochran's "C'mon Everybody." Despite not achieving significant commercial success initially, they gained some traction in Germany with singles like "Boogie For George" and "Prince Kajuku."
Rise to Prominence
The band's lineup saw significant changes, particularly with the arrival of guitarist Michael Schenker in 1973, which marked the beginning of their international success. This era produced several acclaimed albums, including "Phenomenon," "Force It," and "Lights Out," solidifying their reputation as a transitional group between hard rock and heavy metal. The classic lineup, featuring Mogg, Parker, Way, keyboardist Paul Raymond, and Schenker, became known for their energetic performances and innovative sound.
Later Years and Legacy
UFO experienced multiple disbandments and reunions, with Mogg remaining the only constant member throughout their history. They disbanded three times, with their final lineup including Vinnie Moore on guitar and Rob De Luca on bass. In 2018, Mogg announced his retirement plans, leading to a farewell tour that was ultimately canceled due to health issues. The band confirmed their third disbandment in April 2024. UFO's influence on the hard rock and heavy metal genres is undeniable, as they paved the way for many bands in the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM).

UFO were an English rock band formed in London in 1968. They became a transitional group between early hard rock and heavy metal and the new wave of British heavy metal (NWOBHM). The band's final line-up consisted of vocalist Phil Mogg, lead guitarist Vinnie Moore, rhythm guitarist and keyboardist Neil Carter, bass guitarist Rob De Luca, and drummer Andy Parker. They had gone through several line-up changes, leaving Mogg as the only constant member, and had disbanded three times. The band's "classic" line-up comprised Mogg, Parker, bassist Pete Way, keyboardist Paul Raymond, and former Scorpions guitarist Michael Schenker. In May 2018, Mogg announced that he would retire from UFO after one last tour as a member of the band in 2019; however, their farewell tour was set to conclude in 2022 before it was cancelled, due to Mogg's health issues. Mogg confirmed UFO's third disbandment in April 2024.
