Early Life

Vanessa Morgan Mziray was born in Ottawa, Ontario, to a Scottish mother, Catherine, and a Tanzanian father, Loyar. The youngest of three siblings, she began her singing career at the tender age of six, performing at community events and telethons. Her talent was recognized early on when she was spotted by a Hollywood agent in 1999, leading to a scholarship at a Hollywood acting academy. Morgan's early accolades include winning America's Junior Miss pageant and first place in various vocal competitions. She graduated from Colonel By Secondary School in 2010 and pursued philosophy at Queen's University.

Career

Morgan's acting career took off with her debut in the VH1 film "A Diva's Christmas Carol" in 2000. She gained recognition in 2007 for her role as Amanda Pearce in the Family series "The Latest Buzz," where she also performed the theme song. Her filmography includes notable roles in Disney Channel productions such as "My Babysitter's a Vampire" and "Geek Charming." In 2014, she starred in the MTV series "Finding Carter" and later became a series regular on the CW's "Riverdale" as Toni Topaz. As of 2024, she stars as Max Mitchell in the Canadian comedy-drama series "Wild Cards."

Personal Life

Morgan's personal life has seen significant changes, including her engagement to professional baseball player Michael Kopech in 2019, their marriage in January 2020, and subsequent divorce later that year. She announced her pregnancy in July 2020 and welcomed a son in 2021. After her divorce was finalized, Morgan gave birth to a daughter in 2024, fathered by Canadian basketball player James Karnik, to whom she announced her engagement on December 24, 2024.
