Early Life

Victoria Mérida Rojas, known professionally as Victoria Abril, was born in Málaga, Spain, on July 4, 1959. She gained prominence in Spain in 1976 when she appeared on the popular television show "Un, dos, tres... responda otra vez," which showcased her talent and charisma. Her early exposure to the entertainment industry set the stage for a diverse career in both acting and music.

Career

Abril's career spans several decades and includes notable performances in film and music. She is perhaps best known internationally for her role in Pedro Almodóvar's film "Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!". Throughout her career, she has been nominated for the prestigious Goya Awards eight times, winning once for her outstanding performance. In addition to her film accolades, she received the Silver Bear for Best Actress at the 41st Berlin International Film Festival for her role in "Amantes" and was honored with the Berlinale Camera at the 43rd Berlin International Film Festival.

In 2005, Abril ventured into music with her debut album "PutchEros do Brasil," which showcased her jazz and bossa nova influences. She also attempted to represent Spain in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1979 with the song "Bang-Bang-Bang," although she was not selected.

Personal Life

Victoria Abril married former Chilean footballer Gustavo Laube on July 28, 1977, but the couple separated in early 1982. She has two sons with French director Gérard de Battista and has lived in France since 1982, where she continues to pursue her artistic endeavors. Her multifaceted career and personal experiences reflect her dynamic presence in the arts, making her a celebrated figure in both Spanish cinema and music.
