Early Life

William Theodore Katt was born on February 16, 1951, in Los Angeles, California, to actors Bill Williams and Barbara Hale. Growing up in the San Fernando Valley, Katt was immersed in the world of acting from a young age, often appearing alongside his parents. He graduated from the Army and Navy Academy in Carlsbad, California, before pursuing further education at Orange Coast College.

Career

Katt's career began in earnest as he transitioned from music to acting, inspired by his father's legacy. He gained recognition for his role as Tommy Ross in Brian De Palma's 1976 horror film "Carrie," which marked a significant milestone in his early career. His portrayal of Barlow in the 1978 film "Big Wednesday" solidified his status in the surfing community, leading to his participation in the Association of Surfing Professionals awards in 2004. Katt was also considered for the iconic role of Luke Skywalker in the original "Star Wars" film, a part that ultimately went to Mark Hamill. However, he continued to find success in various roles, including the Sundance Kid in "Butch and Sundance: The Early Days."

In 1981, Katt became a household name as Ralph Hinkley/Hanley in the ABC television series "The Greatest American Hero," which aired until 1983. This role showcased his unique blend of charm and comedic talent, further establishing him in the entertainment industry.

Personal Life

Katt's personal life has seen its share of changes; he married Deborah Kahane in 1979, with whom he had two sons, Clayton and Emerson, before their divorce in 1992. He later married Danielle Hirsch in 1993, and they welcomed a daughter, Dakota, along with a stepson, Andrew.
