Early Life

Yohanna, born Jóhanna Guðrún Jónsdóttir in Copenhagen, is an Icelandic singer who began her journey in music at a young age. Her parents, Jón Sverrir Sverrison, an electrical engineer, and Margrét Steinþórsdóttir, a nurse, moved back to Iceland when she was just two years old. Settling in Reykjavík, they later relocated to Hafnarfjörður, where Yohanna's passion for music blossomed. She started taking singing lessons at the age of nine, marking the beginning of her career.

Career

Yohanna's music career officially began in 2000 when she signed with the Icelandic record label Hljóðsmiðjan. As a child artist, she released two albums, "Jóhanna Guðrún 9" and "Ég sjálf," featuring covers of popular international songs in Icelandic. After a brief hiatus from the music scene, she made a significant comeback in 2009 by competing in Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins, the Icelandic national final for the Eurovision Song Contest. Her song "Is It True?" not only won the competition but also earned her a spot in the Eurovision Song Contest 2009, where she finished as the runner-up, achieving Iceland's best result in the contest to date. Following this success, she released her studio album "Butterflies and Elvis" in the same year.

Personal Life

Yohanna's personal life saw her residing in Iceland until 2012, when she moved to Kongsvinger, Norway, to be closer to Europe. She eventually returned to Iceland and married fellow musician Davíð Sigurgeirsson in 2018. The couple has two children, a daughter born in 2015 and a son born in 2019. Davíð has also contributed to her music, having written her 2013 single "Þú."
