Early Life and Education

Ok Taec-yeon, known mononymously as Taecyeon, was born in the Gangnam District of Seoul, South Korea. At the age of 10, he emigrated with his family to Boston, Massachusetts, where he spent seven years. During his time in the U.S., he attended Bedford High School, participating in various extracurricular activities such as the Chess Club and Jazz Band. After returning to South Korea, he transferred to Young Dong High School and pursued higher education in Business Administration at Dankook University and International Business at Korea University Graduate School of International Studies. His journey into the entertainment industry began when his sister encouraged him to audition for JYP Entertainment, leading him to South Korea after a successful audition.

Career

Taecyeon debuted as a rapper in the popular boy band 2PM in 2008, following his participation in the reality show "Hot Blooded Men," which chronicled the training of aspiring idols. The group quickly rose to fame with their hit singles, particularly with their second album, which solidified their status in the K-pop scene. Taecyeon has contributed to the group's music by writing and composing several tracks, including the notable song "Promise (I'll Be)." His charismatic stage presence, particularly during performances of "Heartbeat," earned him the nickname "Ripped Taecyeon" due to his signature shirt-ripping move, which became a defining characteristic of 2PM's image.

As a solo artist, Taecyeon released his Japanese studio album "Taecyeon Special: Winter Hitori" in 2017 and has also made a name for himself in acting, starring in popular dramas such as "Cinderella's Stepsister" and "Vincenzo."

Personal Life

In his personal life, Taecyeon announced his engagement to his non-celebrity partner of ten years in November 2025, with plans for a spring wedding in 2026. He also completed his mandatory military service, enlisting in 2017 after a series of health-related delays. Taecyeon's journey from a young boy in Seoul to a multifaceted entertainer showcases his dedication and versatility in the competitive world of K-pop and acting.
