Agust D

Early Life

Min Yoon-gi, known professionally as Suga and Agust D, was born on March 9, 1993, in Daegu, South Korea. Growing up as the younger of two sons, he attended Taejeon Elementary School, Gwaneum Middle School, and Apgujeong High School. His passion for music ignited at a young age after hearing the song "Ragga Muffin" by Stony Skunk, which inspired him to pursue a career in rap. By age 13, he began writing lyrics and learning about music production, eventually working part-time at a recording studio by age 17.

Career

Suga debuted as a member of the globally renowned boy band BTS in June 2013 under Big Hit Entertainment. Initially joining as a music producer, he trained for three years before making his debut with the track "No More Dream" from their first single album, 2 Cool 4 Skool. Suga has been instrumental in the creative process of BTS, writing and producing numerous tracks across their discography. His solo work includes the mixtapes "Agust D" (2016) and "D-2" (2020), both of which received critical acclaim and commercial success, with "D-2" peaking at number 11 on the US Billboard 200.

Artistic Development

Suga is known for his versatility as a rapper, songwriter, and producer, blending genres such as K-pop and Korean hip-hop. He plays the piano and has over 160 registered songs credited to him. His lyrics often explore themes of hope and resilience, aiming to inspire listeners. Critics have praised his storytelling ability and emotional depth in his music, highlighting his unique approach to hip-hop.

Personal Life

In addition to his music career, Suga has faced health challenges, including surgeries for appendicitis and a torn shoulder labrum. He is also pursuing further education, having graduated with a degree in Broadcasting and Entertainment and currently enrolled in a Master of Business Administration program. As of 2019, he resides in Hannam-dong, Seoul, South Korea, where he purchased a luxury apartment.
