Биография
Formation
Far East Movement, an American hip-hop and electronic music group, was formed in 2003 in Los Angeles by three original members: Kev Nish, Prohgress, and J-Splif. The trio, who grew up together in Downtown Los Angeles, initially performed under the name "Emcees Anonymous" before adopting their current name, inspired by a song they produced. They gained early recognition by organizing an event called "Movementality" in Koreatown, which raised funds for a local youth drug rehabilitation center. Their first album, "Folk Music," was released in 2006, featuring the single "Round Round," which was included in the film "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift."
Breakthrough
The group's major breakthrough came in 2010 when they signed with Cherrytree Records, an imprint of Interscope Records. Their single "Like a G6" reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100, making them the first Asian American group to achieve this milestone. Following this success, their third album, "Free Wired," was released, which included the hit single "Rocketeer," peaking at number seven on the charts. Despite a decline in commercial performance with their fourth album, "Dirty Bass," which included the single "Live My Life," the group continued to influence the music scene with their unique blend of hip-hop and electronic sounds.
Legacy
Far East Movement's impact on the music industry is notable, particularly for their role in representing Asian Americans in mainstream music. Their innovative sound, which combines elements of hip-hop, synth-pop, and electro hop, has paved the way for future artists in the genre. The group's journey from local performances to international recognition showcases their dedication to their craft and their ability to connect with diverse audiences.
