Heaven & Hell

Formation and Early Days

Heaven & Hell was formed in March 2006 as a British-American heavy metal supergroup, featuring iconic members from the original Black Sabbath lineup. The group consisted of guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler, lead vocalist Ronnie James Dio, and drummer Vinny Appice. Initially, Bill Ward was part of the lineup but left due to musical differences before recording began. The name "Heaven & Hell" was adopted to distinguish this incarnation from the Ozzy Osbourne-led Black Sabbath, although they initially recorded under the Black Sabbath name for the project "Black Sabbath – The Dio Years."

Key Releases and Era

During their active years, Heaven & Hell released several notable albums, including their debut studio album, "The Devil You Know," and live recordings such as "Live From Radio City Music Hall" and "Neon Nights: 30 Years of Heaven & Hell." The band also produced singles like "Bible Black" and "The Mob Rules (live from Radio City Music Hall)." Their music continued the heavy metal legacy established by Black Sabbath, showcasing Dio's powerful vocals and Iommi's signature guitar work.

Disbandment and Legacy

Heaven & Hell disbanded on July 24, 2010, after a successful run that lasted just over four years. Despite their brief existence, the group left a significant mark on the heavy metal genre, celebrated for their contributions to the sound and style of Black Sabbath. The band's formation and music continue to influence heavy metal artists and fans alike, solidifying their place in rock history.
