MIYEON

Early Life

Cho Mi-yeon, known mononymously as Miyeon, was born on January 31, 1997, in South Korea as an only child. From a young age, she exhibited a profound passion for music, inspired by her father. Recognizing her talent, her parents enrolled her in music schools where she honed her skills in various instruments, including the violin, guitar, and piano. Miyeon’s journey in music began in earnest when she auditioned for YG Entertainment during her middle school years, leading to a five-year stint as a trainee. Unfortunately, her debut was delayed, prompting her to leave the company and continue her training elsewhere.

Career

In early 2017, Miyeon joined Cube Entertainment as a trainee. Prior to this, she had already made a name for herself as a freelance singer, notably performing with Lim Seul-ong during Urban Zakapa's Canada Tour in September 2016. Miyeon officially debuted with the girl group (G)I-dle on May 2, 2018, with their EP "I Am" and the hit single "Latata." Her career took a significant turn when she participated in the League of Legends World Finals Opening Ceremony in 2018, voicing Ahri for the virtual K-pop group K/DA. The group's song "Pop/Stars" became a viral sensation, topping Billboard's World Digital Songs chart.

In addition to her group activities, Miyeon has collaborated with various artists, including Hangzoo on the track "Cart" in 2019. She also showcased her vocal prowess on MBC's music competition show "King of Mask Singer" in 2020, where her performances garnered acclaim from both the audience and judges, solidifying her reputation as a talented vocalist in the K-pop industry.
