Early Life

Mariya Nazarivna Yaremchuk, born in Chernivtsi, Ukraine, is the daughter of the renowned People's Artist of Ukraine, Nazariy Yaremchuk, and his second wife, Darina. Tragically, her father passed away from stomach cancer when she was just two years old, leaving a profound impact on her life. Growing up, Mariya was deeply influenced by her father's legacy in Ukrainian pop music, and she often reflects on the emotional connection she felt through the recordings he left behind. She has an older half-sister, Vera, and two brothers, Dmytro and Nazariy, from her father's side. Notably, her godfather is the esteemed Vasyl Zinkevych, another prominent figure in Ukrainian music.

Music Career

Yaremchuk's musical journey began to take shape in 2012 when she became a finalist on the TV project "Holos Krainy," finishing in fourth place. That same year, she represented Ukraine at the New Wave 2012 contest, securing third place. Her breakthrough came in 2014 when she won the national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest with her song "Tick-Tock." Competing in Copenhagen, she finished sixth out of 26 countries, gaining international attention, especially given the political climate following Crimea's annexation by Russia. Following Eurovision, she continued to release singles, including a heartfelt cover of her father's song "Rodyna" in 2015.

Personal Life

Mariya Yaremchuk identifies with the Hutsul ethnic group and, as of 2021, resides in Lviv, Ukraine. While she considers herself apolitical, she has expressed support for the Party of Regions in the past. Yaremchuk's life and career reflect a blend of personal heritage and professional ambition, making her a significant figure in contemporary Ukrainian music.
