Early Life

Sergey Vyacheslavovich Lazarev was born on April 1, 1983, in Moscow, Russia. He was the youngest of three siblings, with an elder brother and a sister who tragically passed away at birth. His mother, Valentina, and father, Vyacheslav, both graduated from aviation school, but their marriage ended when Sergey was just five years old. Following the divorce, Valentina worked hard to support her two sons by starting a bed sheet sewing business. Sergey showed an early interest in music and aspired to become a singer, while also practicing artistic gymnastics until an injury forced him to quit.

Career

Lazarev's career took off when he became a member of the pop group Smash!!, which gained significant popularity before disbanding in 2006. Following the breakup, he embarked on a successful solo career, releasing numerous albums including "Don’t Be Fake," "Electric Touch," and "Я не боюсь." He is also known for his participation in the Eurovision Song Contest, representing Russia in 2016 and 2019, where he finished in third place both times, notably coming first in the televote in 2016. His music spans various genres, including pop, pop rock, and electropop, showcasing his versatility as an artist.

Personal Life

In January 2023, Lazarev faced sanctions from the Ukrainian government due to his stance on the Russian invasion of Ukraine, despite having previously spoken out against the conflict. This incident highlights the complexities of his public persona, as he navigates both his artistic career and the political landscape surrounding him.
