Early Life and Education

Christopher Chahn Bahng, known professionally as Bang Chan, was born on October 3, 1997, in Sydney, Australia. As the eldest of three siblings, he grew up in a musically inclined family, with his younger sister, Hannah Bahng, pursuing her own career as an independent musician and YouTuber. Bang Chan's early education at Newtown High School of the Performing Arts allowed him to hone his skills in ballet, modern dance, and music, where he was a member of the school choir. Additionally, he was a competitive swimmer and a classically trained pianist, starting lessons at the age of five. His journey into the music industry began at age 13 when he successfully auditioned for JYP Entertainment's Global Audition in Australia, leading him to relocate to South Korea to train as a K-pop idol.

Career

Bang Chan trained for seven years under JYP Entertainment, where he developed his skills alongside future stars like Twice and Got7. During this time, he made cameo appearances in music videos and formed a hip-hop group called 3Racha with fellow trainees Han and Changbin in 2016. They released their first mixtape in 2017, showcasing their unique sound. In late 2017, Bang Chan participated in the survival show Stray Kids, where he demonstrated exceptional leadership by selecting his team and contributing to the group's branding and logo design. Stray Kids officially debuted on March 25, 2018, with Bang Chan as the leader, and he has since played a pivotal role in the group's musical direction, writing and producing many of their songs.

Bang Chan is celebrated for his versatility as a singer, rapper, songwriter, and producer in the K-pop scene. His artistic contributions extend beyond Stray Kids, as he is also a member of 3Racha, which blends various genres like hip-hop and EDM. Influenced by his mother's love for pop music and inspired by entertainers like Hugh Jackman, Bang Chan's work often reflects themes of personal growth and resilience, resonating deeply with fans worldwide.
