Adam Wiles

Early Life

Adam Richard Wiles, known professionally as Calvin Harris, was born on January 17, 1984, in Dumfries, Scotland, to English parents. His father was a biochemist, and he has an elder sister and brother. Wiles attended Calside Primary School and Dumfries High School. After leaving school, he worked various jobs, including stocking shelves in supermarkets and working in a local fish processing factory, to save up for DJ equipment. His passion for electronic music ignited in his teens, leading him to record bedroom demos starting in 1999.

Career

Calvin Harris's career took off when he began posting his homemade recordings on Myspace, which caught the attention of talent booker Mark Gillespie. In 2006, he signed contracts with Three Six Zero Group for management and EMI for publishing. His debut album, "I Created Disco," was released in June 2007, featuring hits like "Acceptable in the 80s" and "The Girls," both of which achieved commercial success. The album showcased his unique blend of electronic dance music and was certified gold by the British Phonographic Industry. Over the years, Harris has collaborated with numerous artists and transitioned his musical style, notably moving towards funk in his later albums, "Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1" and "Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 2."

Philanthropy

Beyond his music career, Harris has been involved in various charitable efforts. He performed at the "Wasted Youth" charity event in 2007 to raise awareness about youth suicide and supported campaigns to end homelessness in Scotland. He has also participated in concerts benefiting children affected by war and contributed to anti-AIDS initiatives, demonstrating his commitment to using his platform for social good.
