Early Life

Alejandro Sánchez Pizarro, known professionally as Alejandro Sanz, was born on December 18, 1968, in Madrid, Spain. Growing up in the neighborhood of Moratalaz, he was the youngest son of María Pizarro and Jesús Sánchez. His father, a door-to-door book salesman, played guitar professionally, which inspired Alejandro to learn the instrument at a young age. Despite his passion for flamenco music, he found the strict teaching methods discouraging and eventually shifted his focus to pop music infused with flamenco influences.

Career

Sanz's musical journey began in earnest in 1989 when he released his debut album, "Los Chulos Son Pa' Cuidarlos," under the name Alejandro Magno. Although the album did not achieve commercial success, it marked the start of his career. His breakthrough came in 1991 with the release of "Viviendo Deprisa," which garnered him a dedicated fan base. Over the years, Sanz has released numerous acclaimed albums, including "Más," "No Es Lo Mismo," and "Sirope," showcasing his ability to blend various genres such as rock, salsa, and jazz while maintaining his signature romantic ballads. He has won an impressive 24 Latin Grammy Awards and 4 Grammy Awards, solidifying his status as a leading figure in Latin pop music.

Personal Life

Sanz's personal life has been as colorful as his music. He married Mexican model Jaydy Michel in 1999, though the marriage was never legally recognized. They had a daughter, Manuela, before separating in 2005. He later married his former assistant, Raquel Perera, in 2012, with whom he has two children. Sanz is also known for his philanthropic efforts, particularly in advocating against violence towards women, and he enjoys painting as a creative outlet. His artistic journey reflects his belief in taking risks and embracing creativity, which he often expresses through his music and personal endeavors.
