Early Life

Ani DiFranco, born Angela Maria DiFranco on September 23, 1970, in Buffalo, New York, is an American singer-songwriter known for her unique blend of folk rock and alternative rock. The daughter of Elizabeth and Dante Americo DiFranco, she began her musical journey at a young age, playing Beatles covers at local bars and busking with her guitar teacher by the age of nine. By 14, she was writing her own songs and performing them in various venues. DiFranco graduated from the Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts at just 16 and became an emancipated minor, living independently while attending Buffalo State College.

Career

At 19, DiFranco founded her own record label, Righteous Babe Records, and released her self-titled debut album in 1990. Her career took off as she toured extensively, gaining popularity in the North American folk and roots scene. Notable albums include "Not a Pretty Girl," "Little Plastic Castle," and the critically acclaimed "Living in Clip," which achieved gold record status. DiFranco's music often reflects her personal experiences and social issues, and she has been recognized for her contributions to music, winning a Grammy Award for Best Recording Package in 2004 for her album "Evolve."

Personal Life
