Anne Marie David

Early Life

Anne-Marie David was born in Casablanca, Morocco, during the French Protectorate, and later moved to Strasbourg, France. Her family eventually settled in Arles, where she began to cultivate her passion for music. At the age of 18, she moved to Paris, where she became involved in musical theatre, marking the beginning of her professional career.

Career

David's career took off in 1972 when she was cast as Mary Magdalene in the French production of "Jesus Christ Superstar." That same year, she submitted the song "Un peu romantique" for the Eurovision Song Contest, making it to the final shortlist. In 1973, she represented Luxembourg at the Eurovision Song Contest with her song "Tu te reconnaîtras," which became a classic and secured her the first prize, contributing to Luxembourg's consecutive wins in the contest. Following her success, she toured internationally, including a period in Turkey where she recorded singles in Turkish and received several awards.

In 1979, David returned to Eurovision, this time representing France and finishing in third place. Throughout her career, she has released several albums, including "Anne‐Marie David" and "50 ans de chansons," showcasing her evolution as a pop music artist under the Epic Records label. Her contributions to music have solidified her status as a significant figure in the French pop scene.
