Early Life

Anne-Marie Rose Nicholson was born on April 7, 1990, in East Tilbury, Essex, England. Growing up in a supportive family, with her mother as a teacher and her father as a builder, she developed an early passion for performing arts. At the age of five, she began attending stage school and later appeared in two West End productions, including a notable performance in "Whistle Down the Wind" alongside Jessie J. Despite facing bullying during her teenage years, Anne-Marie found solace in music and martial arts, achieving a black belt in Shotokan karate and becoming a triple world champion.

Career

Anne-Marie's music career began to take shape after a chance meeting led her to secure recording time at Rocket Studios, owned by Elton John. Her demo "Summer Girl" caught the attention of Ed Sheeran, which helped her gain recognition. In 2014, she joined the band Rudimental as a vocalist, touring with them for two years and contributing to their album "We the Generation." Her solo career launched with the release of her debut EP, "Karate," in 2015, followed by a string of successful singles including "Alarm," "Ciao Adios," and "Friends." Her albums, "Speak Your Mind," "Therapy," and "Unhealthy," have all charted highly in the UK, showcasing her evolution as a pop and contemporary R&B artist.

Personal Life

In her personal life, Anne-Marie identifies as bisexual but prefers not to label her attractions. She has been open about her struggles with mental health, including anxiety and ADHD, and has shared her experiences with therapy. In 2022, she began dating British rapper Slowthai, and the couple secretly married in Las Vegas in July 2022. They welcomed their first child in February 2024 and announced their second pregnancy in early 2025.
