BABYMETAL

Formation

BABYMETAL, a pioneering kawaii metal band, was formed on November 28, 2010, in Tokyo, Japan. The group emerged as a sub-unit of the female idol group Sakura Gakuin, created by producer Kobametal, who envisioned a fusion of heavy metal and Japanese idol culture. The original lineup consisted of lead vocalist Suzuka Nakamoto, known as "Su-metal," alongside Moa Kikuchi as "Moametal" and Yui Mizuno as "Yuimetal." Their unique blend of heavy metal instrumentation and idol-style choreography quickly garnered attention.

Breakthrough

The band's first live performance took place at Sakura Gakuin's inaugural concert, and they gained significant popularity with the release of their debut album, "BABYMETAL," in 2014. This was followed by their critically acclaimed albums, including "METAL RESISTANCE" and "METAL GALAXY," which showcased their innovative sound and theatrical performances. In 2018, Yui Mizuno departed from the group, leaving Su-metal and Moametal to continue as a duo, with Momoko Okazaki joining as "Momometal" in 2023.
