Early Life

Alexander Leon Gumuchian, known professionally as bbno$, was born on June 30, 1995, in Vancouver, Canada. He is the son of an Armenian father from Egypt and a Danish-Swiss mother. Homeschooled during his early years, he later attended high school where he excelled as a competitive swimmer. Despite his mother's encouragement to learn piano, he struggled with music theory and only began to appreciate music for enjoyment at the age of 15. In 2019, he graduated with a Bachelor of Human Kinetics from the University of British Columbia Okanagan.

Career

bbno$ embarked on his music journey after a back injury curtailed his swimming aspirations. In 2014, he began experimenting with music production using GarageBand alongside friends, forming a group called the Broke Boy Gang. After a brief period of live performances and online releases, the group disbanded. He started posting tracks on SoundCloud in September 2016 under the name bbnomula, quickly amassing millions of streams. His popularity surged in China, where he sold out multiple headlining tours, thanks in part to a viral video featuring Jackson Yee dancing to his song "Yoyo Tokyo".

In 2017, bbno$ released his first EP, "Baby Gravy," in collaboration with Yung Gravy, followed by his debut studio album, "Bb Steps." His second studio album, "Recess," released in late 2019, featured collaborations with Y2K and Trippy Tha Kid, and included the hit single "Lalala," which propelled him to greater fame. His unique style, described as "oxymoronic rap," blends ignorance with melody, drawing inspiration from a diverse range of genres and artists.

bbno$ has made a significant impact on the music scene, particularly with his catchy tracks and engaging collaborations.
