Early Life

Flo Rida, born Tramar Lacel Dillard on September 16, 1979, in the Carol City neighborhood of Miami Gardens, Florida, grew up in a large family with seven sisters, including a twin. His early exposure to music came from his sisters, who sang in a local gospel group, and his brother-in-law, who was a hype man for the rap group 2 Live Crew. At the age of 14, Flo Rida joined an amateur rap group called the GroundHoggz, which recorded in underground studios and remained active for eight years. The death of his sister Julia from bronchitis deeply impacted him, motivating him to pursue a successful music career in her memory.

Career

Flo Rida's career took off when he caught the attention of rapper Fresh Kid Ice, who invited him to be his hype man. This opportunity led to his debut guest appearances on Fresh Kid Ice's album in 2004. His collaboration with Fresh Kid Ice opened doors, leading to connections with notable figures like DeVante Swing from Jodeci. Between 2003 and 2007, he released several mixtapes, including "first flo" and "R.I.D.A," which showcased his unique blend of hip-hop, pop, and dance music. His breakout single "Low" in 2007 topped the charts for ten weeks and set a record for digital downloads at the time, solidifying his place in the music industry.
