Early Life

Birgit Õigemeel, born on September 24, 1988, in Estonia, is a talented singer known for her contributions to pop music. Growing up in a musical family, her mother was a music teacher, which likely influenced her early interest in music. Birgit began her musical journey as a choir singer in the Estonian Television children's choir and learned to play the violin at Kohila Music School. She is the second youngest of four sisters, and together they have performed as a singing group at various local events.

Career

Birgit rose to fame in 2007 when she became the first winner of "Eesti otsib superstaari," the Estonian version of Pop Idol. This victory propelled her into the spotlight, leading to the release of her self-titled debut album in 2008. Over the years, she has released several albums, including "Ilus aeg," "Teineteisel pool," and "Uus algus." In addition to her music career, Birgit has made a name for herself in theatre, playing notable roles such as Maria Von Trapp in "The Sound of Music" and Sophie in the Estonian production of "Mamma Mia!"

Birgit also represented Estonia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 with her song "Et uus saaks alguse," where she qualified from the semi-finals and finished 20th in the final. Her participation in Eurovision was preceded by two unsuccessful attempts in 2008 and 2012, and she had previously performed as a choir artist during the 2002 contest held in Tallinn.

Birgit is married to her manager, Indrek Sarrap, and they have two children, a son born in October 2013 and a daughter born in 2016. The family resides in Tallinn, Estonia.
