Early Life

Brian Johnson was born on October 5, 1947, in Dunston, Gateshead, England. He is the eldest of four siblings, raised in a family where his father, Alan, worked as a coal miner and served as a sergeant major in the British Army. His mother, Esther, hailed from Italy. From a young age, Johnson showcased his musical talents by performing in various shows with the Scouts, participating in a television play, and joining a local church choir. He also served in the Territorial Army with the 17th Parachute Battalion in Germany for two years.

Career

Johnson's musical journey began with his first band, the Gobi Desert Canoe Club, followed by a stint in a band called Fresh. In 1970, he joined the Jasper Hart Band, where he performed popular songs of the time. He later became a member of Geordie, releasing his first solo single, "I Can't Forget You Now," in January 1976. After the tragic death of AC/DC's lead singer Bon Scott in 1980, Johnson was chosen to take over the role, marking a significant turning point in his career. His powerful voice and energetic stage presence helped propel AC/DC to new heights, solidifying their status as rock legends.

Personal Life

Brian Johnson married his first wife, Carol, in 1968, with whom he has two daughters. The couple separated in the late 1970s and eventually divorced. He later married Brenda Winkel in 1990 and currently resides in Sarasota, Florida. An avid supporter of Newcastle United F.C., Johnson was once invited to invest in the club. In 2009, he faced health challenges when diagnosed with Barrett's oesophagus, but he successfully managed the condition. In recognition of his contributions to music, he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Music degree by Northumbria University in 2014. Johnson's net worth was estimated at £65 million in 2016, reflecting his successful career in the music industry.
