Career

Neuwirth's musical journey began in 2006 when he participated in the Austrian TV show Starmania, finishing as a runner-up. He briefly formed a boyband called Jetzt Anders!, which disbanded shortly after. It was during this time that he developed his drag persona, Conchita Wurst, a bearded woman symbolizing self-acceptance and defiance against societal norms. The name "Conchita" was inspired by a Cuban friend, while "Wurst" reflects a German expression meaning indifference. Conchita first gained public attention in 2011 on ORF's Die große Chance, and after several performances, she achieved international fame by winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 2014 with the empowering anthem "Rise Like a Phoenix."
