Early Life

Toni-Ville Henrik Virtanen, known professionally as Darude, was born on July 17, 1975, in the small Finnish village of Hinnerjoki in Eura. His passion for music began during his studies at Turku Polytechnic, where he experimented with music production using tracker software on his PC. This early interest led him to develop more sophisticated production techniques, and he quickly became involved in the Finnish trance and house music scene starting in 1995.

Career

Darude's breakthrough came in 1999 when he released the iconic single "Sandstorm," which became a global phenomenon. The track sold over 2 million units worldwide and was the best-selling 12-inch single of 2000. Following this success, he released his debut album, "Before the Storm," on September 18, 2000, which sold 800,000 copies and earned him three Finnish Grammy Awards. His second album, "Rush," released in 2003, also achieved significant success, reaching number 11 on the Billboard dance chart. Throughout his career, Darude has released several albums, including "Label This!" and "Moments," and has continued to be a prominent figure in the electronic music scene.

Personal Life

Darude is married to his American wife, Michelle, and they have two children: a son born in 2009 and a daughter born in 2017. After living in Atlanta, Georgia, from the late 2000s until 2013, he returned to Finland, where he currently resides in Salo with his family. His journey from a small Finnish village to international stardom showcases his dedication to music and his ability to connect with audiences worldwide.
