The original lineup consisted of Jello Biafra on lead vocals, East Bay Ray on lead guitar, Klaus Flouride on bass, Ted on drums, and 6025 on rhythm guitar. They made their live debut on July 19, 1978, at Mabuhay Gardens, quickly establishing themselves in the local punk scene. The band often performed under pseudonyms due to the provocative nature of their name, which was not intended to insult the Kennedy family but rather to provoke thought about political issues.

Throughout their career, Dead Kennedys released several seminal albums, including "Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables," "Plastic Surgery Disasters," and "Frankenchrist."
