Destiny Chukunyere

Early Life

Destiny Chukunyere, known mononymously as Destiny, was born on August 29, 2002, in Birkirkara, Malta. She is the daughter of Ndubisi Chukunyere, a former footballer from Nigeria, and a Maltese mother. Growing up in a multicultural household, Destiny has two younger siblings, a sister named Melody and a brother named Isaiah. She attended secondary school in Ħamrun, where her passion for music began to flourish.

Career

Destiny's musical journey took off when she participated in various singing competitions, showcasing her talent early on. In 2014, she placed third in the Festival Kanzunetta Indipendenza with her song "Festa t'Ilwien" and later won the Asterisks Music Festival and SanRemo Junior in Italy. Her big break came in 2015 when she won the Maltese national final, allowing her to represent Malta at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Sofia, Bulgaria. There, she performed her original song "Not My Soul," composed by Elton Zarb, and won the contest with a record-breaking score of 185 points.

Following her success at Junior Eurovision, Destiny auditioned for ITV's Britain's Got Talent in 2017, where she impressed the judges with her rendition of Aretha Franklin's "Think." Her performance garnered praise from music critic Simon Cowell and tenor Joseph Calleja, solidifying her status as a rising star in the music industry. Destiny continues to draw inspiration from iconic artists like Aretha Franklin, Beyoncé, and Lizzo, shaping her unique musical style in the pop genre.
