Early Life

Faiz Ahmad Faiz was born on February 13, 1911, in Kala Qader, Punjab, British India, into a distinguished Punjabi family known for its literary contributions. His father, Sultan Muhammad Khan, was a barrister and a polyglot who fostered a love for literature and education in his home, often hosting gatherings of poets and intellectuals. Faiz's early education included Islamic studies at a local mosque, which laid the foundation for his literary pursuits.

Career

Faiz's literary career began in academia when he joined Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental College in 1935 as a lecturer in English literature. He later moved to Lahore, where he became a prominent figure in the literary movement and served as editor-in-chief of the monthly magazine "Adab-e-Latif". His first book, "Naqsh-e-Faryadi", was published in 1941, marking the start of a prolific writing career that would see him publish eight books. Faiz's poetry, rich with themes of justice, rebellion, and the plight of the oppressed, resonated widely, earning him acclaim in both Pakistan and India.
