Formation

LMFAO, an American electronic dance music duo, was formed in 2006 in Los Angeles by members Redfoo and Sky Blu. The duo emerged from the vibrant electro house club scene, gaining traction through local performances and radio play. Initially considering the name "Sexy Dudes," they ultimately settled on LMFAO after a conversation with Sky Blu's grandmother. Their connection with will.i.am, who introduced them to Interscope Records, proved pivotal in their early career, leading to a record deal that would launch their music into the mainstream.

Breakthrough

The duo released their debut EP, "Party Rock," in 2008, followed by their first full-length album, "Party Rock," in 2009. The album featured the hit single "I'm in Miami Bitch," which peaked at number 51 on the Billboard Hot 100. Their follow-up album, "Sorry for Party Rocking," released in 2011, included chart-topping singles like "Party Rock Anthem" and "Sexy and I Know It," both of which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100. LMFAO's infectious sound, characterized by a blend of hip-hop, synth-pop, and dance music, resonated widely, solidifying their place in pop culture.

Disbandment and Legacy

Despite their success, LMFAO disbanded on September 21, 2012. During their brief but impactful career, they received several accolades, including a Billboard Music Award for Top Selling Song and an MTV Movie Award for Best Song from a Movie. Their music continues to influence the electronic dance music scene, and their party-centric anthems remain popular in clubs and events worldwide.
