Glenn Frey

Early Life

Glenn Lewis Frey was born on November 6, 1948, in Detroit, Michigan, and raised in nearby Royal Oak. He began his musical journey at the tender age of five, studying piano before switching to guitar. Frey became an integral part of the mid-1960s Detroit rock scene, forming his first band, the Subterraneans, while still in high school. After graduating in 1966, he joined The Four of Us, where he honed his vocal harmonies. His early collaborations included working with Bob Seger, who helped him secure a recording contract. Frey’s passion for music led him to form several bands, including the Mushrooms and Heavy Metal Kids, setting the stage for his future success.

Career

Frey's career took off as a founding member of the Eagles, where he served as co-lead singer and frontman alongside Don Henley. The Eagles became one of the most successful rock bands in history, with Frey contributing to iconic hits like "Take It Easy," "Peaceful Easy Feeling," and "Hotel California." After the band disbanded in 1980, Frey launched a successful solo career, achieving notable hits such as "The Heat Is On" and "You Belong to the City." His music not only topped charts but also featured prominently in films and television, including the theme for the series Miami Vice.

Personal Life

Glenn Frey was married twice, first to artist Janie Beggs from 1983 to 1988, and later to dancer and choreographer Cindy Millican in 1990. Together, they had three children: Taylor, Deacon, and Otis. Frey remained a devoted family man until his passing in 2016. His son Deacon has since followed in his father's footsteps, touring with the Eagles and later pursuing a solo career. Frey’s legacy continues to resonate through his music and the impact he had on rock and pop culture.
