Herciana Matmuja

Early Life

Hersjana Matmuja, known professionally as Hersi Matmuja, was born on February 1, 1990, in Kukës, Albania. She began her musical journey at the tender age of eight, participating in various festivals and talent shows throughout her childhood. Hersi honed her vocal skills at Liceu "Jordan Misja" in Tirana, where she excelled, achieving the highest possible grade of 10/10 upon graduation. At just 13 years old, she showcased her talent by providing the singing voice for Melody in the Albanian dub of "The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea."

Career Milestones

Hersi's career took off when she participated in the prestigious Festivali i Këngës at the age of 16, winning First Prize in the Youth Category with her performance of "Ah jetë, oh jetë," composed by Frederik Ndoci. She continued to make her mark in the music scene, returning to the festival three more times and also competing in Kënga Magjike twice. In 2009, she auditioned for the "Santa Cecilia" Conservatory in Rome, where she ranked first among all applicants. Hersi graduated in October 2014 with the maximum score of 30/30 and the title of "Maestro," further solidifying her classical music credentials.

Despite her classical training, Hersi draws inspiration from a diverse range of artists, including Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald, and Lady Gaga. Her versatility was highlighted when she represented Albania in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 after winning the 52nd edition of Festivali i Këngës. Hersi continues to be a prominent figure in the Albanian music scene, blending her classical roots with contemporary pop influences.
