HYDE

Early Life

Hideto Takarai, known by his stage name Hyde, was born in Japan and attended a vocational high school for art, where he was surrounded by aspiring musicians. Influenced by a guitarist friend, he picked up the guitar and began learning to play. His first performance came when he was invited by his friend Hirai, leading him to form a band with Hirai and another friend, using a drum machine. As he realized his vocal talents surpassed his guitar skills, he embraced his role as a singer, igniting his ambition to become a professional musician.

Career

Hyde's career took off in 1991 when he co-founded the rock band L'Arc-en-Ciel with Tetsuya, Pero, and Hiro. The band quickly gained traction in Osaka, leading to significant lineup changes and a record deal with Danger Crue Records. Their debut album, "Dune," released in 1993, marked the beginning of their rise, culminating in record-breaking performances, including selling out the Tokyo Dome in just four minutes in 1997. L'Arc-en-Ciel became a household name in Japan and expanded internationally, making history as the first Japanese act to sell out Madison Square Garden in 2012. Alongside his work with L'Arc-en-Ciel, Hyde has also pursued a successful solo career and is the lead vocalist of the band Vamps.

Musical Style and Influences

Hyde's musical style is characterized by a blend of rock genres, including alternative rock and pop rock. He draws inspiration from a diverse range of artists, including Dead End, Mötley Crüe, and Depeche Mode. Notably, he prefers to write his music in Japanese before collaborating with American partners to translate his lyrics into English, showcasing his commitment to crafting a global sound.
