Ike Turner

Early Life

Izear Luster "Ike" Turner Jr. was born on November 5, 1931, in Clarksdale, Mississippi, to Beatrice Cushenberry and Izear Luster Turner, a Baptist minister. Growing up in a Creole family, Turner faced significant challenges, including the traumatic loss of his father, who died after a violent incident. Despite these hardships, he developed a passion for music early on, learning to play the piano and later the guitar, influenced by blues legends and country artists alike.

Career

Turner's musical journey began as a teenager when he joined a local band called the Tophatters, which eventually split into two groups, one of which became the Kings of Rhythm.
