Indochine

Formation

Indochine, a prominent French rock and new wave band, was formed in Paris in 1981 by Nicola Sirkis and Dominique Nicolas. They quickly expanded their lineup by adding Dimitri Bodianski, and after their first concert at Le Rose Bonbon on September 29, 1981, they secured a record deal. Their debut single, released in November 1981, included the tracks "Dizzidence Politik" and "Françoise," garnering critical attention but limited commercial success.

Breakthrough

The band's first album, "L'Aventurier," was recorded in April 1982 and became a significant hit, selling over 250,000 copies and establishing Indochine as a major player in the French music scene. The title track became the song of the summer in 1983. Following this success, they released their second album, "Le Péril Jaune," which sold 225,000 copies and solidified their popularity, particularly in Scandinavia. Throughout the 1980s, Indochine continued to tour and release music, gaining a dedicated fanbase.

Resurgence and Legacy

After a period of commercial struggles in the 1990s, Indochine experienced a resurgence with their 2002 album "Paradize," which revitalized their career. To date, the band has sold over 10 million albums and singles worldwide, earning numerous accolades, including the MTV Europe Music Award for Best French Act. Indochine remains influential in the French music landscape, known for their distinctive sound and engaging performances, continuing to attract new generations of fans.
