Isabela Merced

Early Life

Isabela Yolanda Moner, known professionally as Isabela Merced, was born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 2001 to Katerine, a nurse from Lima, Peru, and Patrick Moner, a firefighter from Louisiana. Growing up, Spanish was her first language, and she faced challenges with English in school. Merced describes herself as "half Peruvian and half from Ohio" and has two brothers. Her journey into acting began after her family's home was destroyed by a fire, prompting her parents to encourage her to audition for a local production of The Wizard of Oz. This led to her attending the Fairmount Performing Arts Conservatory and eventually moving to New York City to pursue a career in Broadway.

Career

Merced's career took off at a young age, inspired by icons like Shirley Temple and Judy Garland. She made her Broadway debut at just ten years old in a production of Evita, where she sang alongside Ricky Martin. Her breakout role came in the Nickelodeon series 100 Things to Do Before High School from 2014 to 2016. In addition to acting, she has made significant strides in music, releasing her debut album Stopping Time in 2015. Merced has also starred in major films such as Transformers: The Last Knight and Dora and the Lost City of Gold, showcasing her versatility as both an actress and a singer.

Merced identifies as queer and has been open about her experiences and relationships within the queer community. She aims to contribute positively to queer representation in American pop culture. Additionally, she has spoken candidly about her struggles with anxiety and polycystic ovary syndrome, emphasizing the importance of mental health awareness.
