Iwan Rheon

Early Life

Iwan Rheon was born on May 13, 1985, in Carmarthen, Dyfed, Wales, to Einir and Rheon Tomos. At the age of five, his family relocated to Cardiff, where he grew up alongside his older brother, Aled, who is also a musician. Rheon attended Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Glantaf, a Welsh-speaking school, where he began to explore his passion for acting in school drama productions at the age of 17. His talent was recognized when he was spotted by a talent scout at the National Eisteddfod of Wales.

Career

Rheon’s career began with a role in the Welsh language soap opera Pobol Y Cwm, where he played Macsen White. He later trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, which paved the way for his stage debut in the rock musical Spring Awakening in 2008. His portrayal of Moritz Stiefel earned him critical acclaim and a Laurence Olivier Award for Best Performance in a Supporting Role in a Musical in 2010. Rheon gained further recognition for his role as Simon Bellamy in the E4 series Misfits, where he showcased his acting range from 2009 to 2011. He is also known for his role as Ramsay Bolton in HBO's Game of Thrones from 2013 to 2016, and for portraying Mick Mars in the film The Dirt in 2019.

Personal Life

Fluent in both Welsh and English, Rheon considers Welsh his first language. He resides in London and has a son born in August 2018 with his partner Zoë Grisedale, though they separated in 2023. Despite facing challenges such as dyslexia, Rheon has continued to thrive in both his acting and music careers, contributing to his reputation as a versatile artist.
