Early Life

Jasmine Lucilla Elizabeth Jennifer van den Bogaerde, known professionally as Birdy, was born on May 15, 1996, in Lymington, England. She grew up in a musically enriched environment, influenced by the classical music her mother played. Birdy is the daughter of Rupert Oliver Benjamin van den Bogaerde, a writer, and Sophie Patricia Roper-Curzon. She has two younger siblings, Jake and Caitlin, and two older half-brothers from her father's previous marriage. Birdy attended several schools, including Durlston Court Prep School and Brockenhurst College, and spent her childhood at the family estate, Pylewell Park.

Career

Birdy's career took off at a young age when she won the UK talent contest Open Mic UK in 2008 at just 12 years old, performing her original song "So Be Free". This victory set the stage for her musical journey. In 2011, she released a cover of Bon Iver's "Skinny Love," which became her first major hit, reaching #17 on the UK Singles Chart and topping the charts in the Netherlands. Her debut album, released in November 2011, featured a mix of covers and her original work, showcasing her unique voice and emotional depth. Over the years, Birdy has released several albums, including "Fire Within," "Beautiful Lies," and "Young Heart," solidifying her place in the pop and indie music scenes.
