John Uhler Lemmon III, known as Jack Lemmon, was born on February 8, 1925, in an elevator at Newton-Wellesley Hospital in Newton, Massachusetts. He was raised in a Catholic household as the only child of Mildred and John Uhler Lemmon Jr., who had a challenging marriage that led to separation when Jack was 18.
