Jewel Kilcher was born on May 23, 1974, in Payson, Utah, into a family with deep Alaskan roots. She is the second child of Atz Kilcher and Lenedra Kilcher, and her upbringing was marked by a unique lifestyle on a 770-acre homestead in Anchorage, Alaska. Jewel's childhood was shaped by her father's connection to the land and the family's struggles, as they lived without indoor plumbing. After her parents' divorce when she was eight, she continued to live with her father, who had a significant influence on her artistic development. Jewel's family is also known for their appearances on the Discovery Channel show "Alaska: The Last Frontier.

Career

Jewel's music career began in the early 1990s when she performed in coffee shops and small venues across Southern California, often living in her car. Her big break came when she was discovered by a talent manager at a local café, leading to a record deal with Atlantic Records. Her debut album, "Pieces of You," released in 1995, catapulted her to fame, selling over 30 million copies worldwide.
