Early Life

Joseph David Keery, known by his musical stage name Cool Cool Cool, was born in April 1992 in Newburyport, Massachusetts, as the second of five children. He attended Newburyport High School, where he was encouraged by his older sister to pursue acting, participating in Theater in the Open, a performing arts camp. Keery later graduated from The Theatre School at DePaul University in Chicago in 2014 with a BFA in acting.

Career

Keery's career took off with his breakout role as Steve Harrington in the Netflix series "Stranger Things," which premiered in 2016. Initially auditioning for a different role, he was cast as Steve and became a series regular by the second season. Before this, he appeared in commercials and had minor roles in shows like "Empire" and "Chicago Fire." In addition to acting, Keery has made a name for himself in music, releasing tracks under the name Cool Cool Cool and co-founding the psychedelic rock band Post Animal, where he played drums, guitar, and provided vocals from 2014 to 2018.

Personal Life

In his personal life, Keery was in a relationship with actress Maika Monroe from 2017 until 2023. Following their split, he relocated from Los Angeles to the West Village in New York City and briefly dated actress Chase Sui Wonders in late 2023. Keery continues to balance his dual careers in acting and music, showcasing his versatility as an artist.
