Early Life

Joshua Taylor Bassett was born on December 22, 2000, in Oceanside, California, to parents Taylor and Laura. Growing up in a large family with five sisters, he was home-schooled and developed a passion for musical theater at a young age. His first experience came at age eight when he participated in a community theater production of "High School Musical on Stage!". This early introduction to the arts led him to star in over 30 musical productions before transitioning to television. At 16, he moved to Los Angeles, where he faced challenges, including living in his car while pursuing his acting career.

Career

Bassett's breakthrough came in 2018 when he landed the role of Aidan Peters in the Disney Channel series "Stuck in the Middle". However, he gained widespread recognition as Ricky Bowen in Disney+'s "High School Musical: The Musical: The Series" from 2019 to 2023. His performance earned him critical acclaim and two Children's and Family Emmy Award nominations, with a win in 2023. In addition to acting, Bassett is a talented musician, signed to Warner Records in 2020. He has released several singles and extended plays, with his debut album, "The Golden Years," set to release on July 26, 2024.

Personal Life

In 2021, Bassett publicly came out as a member of the LGBTQ+ community. He has faced significant health challenges, including a near-fatal hospitalization due to septic shock and heart failure, which led to struggles with addiction. Additionally, he has been open about his experiences with body image issues and childhood abuse. In February 2023, he embraced Christianity and was baptized in an evangelical church, marking a significant personal milestone in his life.
